Bollywood is the largest film industry in the world and is located in Mumbai, India (formerly known as Bombay). Bollywood films are a concoction of songs, dances, drama, love triangles, villains, comedy, and action packed fight scenes. Combining all these aspects of film make it a film genre of its own. Bollywood films are most popular for their song and dance numbers, from which the style of Bollywood dancing was born. These song and dance numbers play a huge role in Indian pop culture as well as other parts of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The Bollywood culture has spread so far that it has begun to influence Hollywood films like Moulin Rouge and The Guru. The style of Bollywood dancing incorporates elements of Indian classical dance, Indian folk dance, jazz, and hip hop. Various hand gestures and rhythmic foot work are used to convey the story being told in the song. Many of the Bollywood songs tend to be about love or happiness. They usually convey a single emotion or a story that supports that emotion through upbeat music and fast paced hip shaking moves. Much emphasis is placed on costumes, jewelry, and makeup, which makes it a very lavish entertainment experience. The costumes range from very traditional classical or folk costumes to modern and trendy western outfits. With so many influences and elements being combined in Bollywood dancing, the possibilities are limitless.
